  • Doggie nail filers?

I was washing my dog, and I noticed his nail was tearing. I clip his nails every two to three weeks, but this was a tear on the side of his nail. Do they have such thing as doggie nail filers?Doggie nail filers?
I like to use the ones that are made for acrylic nails..the big broad ones that I get 4 for a dollar at the dollar sotre..Doggie nail filers?
I know a lot of people, including myself, who use a dremmel to trim their dogs' nails! I have an Akita and nothing else gets through those suckers. They are THICK!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dremel
Just use a regular nail file for humans. It should be ok.
You can get a drammel tool or similar and put a sanding drum in it and this will work great. Get a tool that has a variable speed so you can adjust it to suit your needs
I have a siberian husky and he goes to the parlour regularly the best thing about that is that he runs for a living sledding so his nails gets to be filled while running so we dont need to file it maybe you should take your dog out for walks and see if his nails would go down from that, my other suggestion would be to go to the pet shop and they should have there..
There might be but I find that a regular people nail file works just fine.
    Yes....Here is some help...

Do pet nail filers actually work?

    Ex: Peticure or PediPaws

My dog HATES getting his nails trimmed. I've tried numerous times to do it myself and it always ends up me taking him to the groomers. I was just wondering if anyone owns one and knows if they actually work.

*Please, don't write rude response. I'm just curious, that's the whole point of Answers.*Do pet nail filers actually work?
My local pet supply store (not a chain), who also does grooming said they're a waste of money. She said they work, but it takes a LONG time on each nail, and the filer gets so hot after a while that you have to take a break. I've found the easiest way to trim my dogs' nails is to have someone else hold them while I trim. I have serious biting issues with my female shih tzu, but can't muzzle her because she has practically no muzzle! I usually have my mom come over %26amp; hold her while I do a quick snip. Good luck!Do pet nail filers actually work?
yes they do work beacause i have two dogs and one of my dogs is not afraid of the nail fialers
yes they do work but i sugest going to a groomer and this time ask how to and they will show you

How to change the actual shape of my nails without using a filer?

like the sides are totally uneven and small! what shall i do???How to change the actual shape of my nails without using a filer?
You definitely need a file to round them out and up. There's no way around it. When you gain/lose weight, that can change your nails, too. But the only way to really even them up right is to file them the way you want them to be.

My cat chews on emery boards/ nail filers?

    It's the weirdest thing.

He holds them with his paws and gently glides his teeth across the board.

    Almost like he's sharpening them.

He'll search them out in my room, like he knows the smell or something?

Is this normal/ healthy? My cat chews on emery boards/ nail filers?
It sounds to me like teething, just like babies do. This is perfectly normal for a kitten or younger cat. How old is he?

Hm, that is odd for a 7 year old. I'm really not sure then. It might just be a phase he's going through. I definately don't think it is any reason for concern, though. My cat chews on emery boards/ nail filers?
My cats do the same thing and they vary in age from 1 - 10...I have no idea why they do this...

Help! My little pomeranian has ate a nail filer for the 6th or 7th time.?

I have set my nailfilers down on many occasions, walked off to do something and found her eating them. There have only been little pices left when I find them. She has done this several times. I have not monitored her stool directly after she ate it but have noticed every now and then her stool has been fine. I know she probably passes the wood in her stool but can this damage her insides in the long run? should I check for bloody stool? Is that a tell tale sign? I realize this is all my fault as a pet owner.Help! My little pomeranian has ate a nail filer for the 6th or 7th time.?
yes you should be checking her when she does this.. the wood could splinter and perforate her stomache or intestines.. or may even cause a blockage

or better yet.. you KNOW she eats these things, so dont leave them lay! Take the extra minute or two to put the file away when you are done using it. You may want to consider a metal nail file instead of the wood ones, a metal one wont be as attractive as the wood and she'd probably leave it alone.Help! My little pomeranian has ate a nail filer for the 6th or 7th time.?
why does it take 6 or 7 times for you to start worrying?!?!?!?!?!?

Fingernail Problem that was caused by a nail filer?

I have a fingernail bitting problem and there is always a piece of skin left on the top layer of the nail when I peel it. But I usually use a nail filer to pick the excessive skin and then the fingernail clipper. But then I wasnt paying attention and the nail filer went into my fingernail and left this black mark. Please anyone what could this possibly be. Could it be a blood clot in my fingernail or just a piece of trash stuck in my nail. And if it is a bloot clot in my fingernail, what is the possible harm it could do to that one finger. Because it itches for awhile when I try to take it out. Please anyone, a nail technition or a doctor specialist or anyone who knows about fingernails.Fingernail Problem that was caused by a nail filer?
    Ahh, it's okay. (:

It is either a bruise or dried blood. :D

    You'll be fine.

  • Pet Nail Filer?

I have 3 dogs and 1 Guinea pig, And i saw a pet nail filer on TV and looked it up on Amazon.com, And i was just wondering if this nail file would work for a guinea pig? I havent been able to trim my guinea pig's nails yet, and she's 6 months old now, and i cant even pick her up because she scratches me and now it breaks the skin. But im soo afraid to trim her nails to old fashion way, because the last time i tried that she squeeled and it sounded like a pained squeel. So i just want to know if that is possible?

This is the Nail file i was looking at but if there is a better one that will actually work for guinea pigs please tell me what it is if this one doesnt work:

one of the battery operated dremmel tools (because you can get all sorts of tips for them all over the place) or even one of the battery operated human pedicure ones that can be obtained at places like walmart... there is no real difference or advantage to ones like the pediPaws one (in fact you have to special order the replacement bands when you run out of the ones that come with them)

dremmel tools are available at most hardware stores like lowes and home depot, or stores like walmart, kmart, sears, meijer... the pedipaws use a sanding drum almost exactly like the sanding drums for the dremmel, the dremmel also has grinding stones and different tips much like the tips used for manicures and pedicures....they're all rotary tools just that the pet ones and the mani/pedi ones have men cutsied up.
Just use a Dremel Tool. I've been using one for 30 years.

Add: You can get them at most home improvement stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. Walmart or K-Mart might sell them, too. We have the cordless, rechargable one. It comes with a nice carrying box and a lot of other attachments to all kinds of uses. I don't remember what I paid for it.

Ok. Errm! What does a Nail FIler do?

What does it do to your nails?

I have filed and filed and filed again, and i don't know how to use a nail file or what it does! LOL! Please help!Ok. Errm! What does a Nail FIler do?
nail filers are almost like sandpaper for the nails - they take little shavings that look like powder off your nails leaving them in a less ragged looking form.

you use nail files a bit like sandpaper but you rub the files on the tips of youre nails creating the same effect with the whitish powder. you file around the tip of youre nail until it looks even

good luck!Ok. Errm! What does a Nail FIler do?
u shape the nail so its curved evenly. Also, you can file the tops of your nails to make it smoother, but don't do this too often because it will make your nails really thin (which hurts a lot....trust me)
It helps you shave down your nail to shape it. To us it rub the flat end against your nail. Personally, I don't like the way they feel against your nail, so don't be surprised if it feels weird.
It helps to shape the nail

Where can you get a dremel nail filers for dogs?

My mother has a pomeranian / Chihuahua mix and this weekend I am taking care of her, I live in a small town so I don't know where I could get one, target, walmart, kmart? But her nails are almost more than an inch long, I know the quick grows when the nail grows so I don't want to clip, I was thinking about using a regular nail filer. Anyone either have any suggestions or know where I could find one?Where can you get a dremel nail filers for dogs?
You can get a dremel at walmart, but do not attempt to do this by yourself with a dog who is not familiar with it. A dremel may sound easier to you, but it might sound absolutely terrifying to your dog. I personally find a dremel is more difficult to use than a clipper.

You cannot dremel any farther down than you can clip - a dremel can still make a dog's quicks bleed. Where can you get a dremel nail filers for dogs?
Take her to a groomer to get her nails cut. On nails that long it is best to get it done by someone who does it all of the time. Even then sometimes the quick gets cut cause if the nails are dark you can not see the quick.

Most dogs don't like their feet messed with %26amp; you will have a very hard time trying to do it with a grinder cause of the vibration %26amp; noise. Letting the nails grow out that far causes problems in the dogs angulation in both shoulders %26amp; hips %26amp; causes the dog to ';pad';, walk on the big pad of the foot instead of up on their toes like dogs are susposed to walk.

When I was grooming I charged $5.00 to cut nails. It is probably more expensive now cause it was about 8 years ago when I was grooming.
We just ordered a Peticure ( http://www.peticure.com/ ) and it works great. It is an electric nail filer with a protective guard on it to make easier to file the nails. If you need one fast they have similar products at Petsmart. We only file our dogs nails as they hate the clippers. They weren't sure about the noise from this at first but they don't seem to mind it now and it works great!

    Good Luck!

Try a hardware store. Dremels are multi-purpose tools. Or the beauty section - I have no idea what they're called, but isn't there an electric nail filer?

Stay away from pet stores - the going price is around $60. I think you can get a wood-working dremel at Lowes for about $30.

You can find a dremel in any store like Walmart, etc., but it will be in the tool section, not the pet section. The thing people see on tv called the Peticure is basically the same thing with a guard on it.
A regular nail file won't work. You can get a Dremel with the sanding drum (which is what I've used) at Home depot or anyplace else that sells hardware and tools. Also, Google it and you can buy it mailorder
i bought a peticure for my dogs, and its great, but you have to order it online. its worth the money though, lightweight and pretty quiet. to find one in a store i'd try petco, i worked at one years ago and i know they carried them then.

Are electronic dog nail filers/grinders easier to use than clippers?

I'd really rather not spend $40+ and then find out I don't like it.Are electronic dog nail filers/grinders easier to use than clippers?
I have used a cordless Dremel on my several dogs plus fosters and friends' dogs for years and love them. Dremel has a small cordless at Wal*Mart for $20 and if you keep the reciept you have 90 days to return it. It does take a few tries to get some dogs used to it but if you have control of your dog I have found it takes only 3 sessions for the dog to accept it. If you have no control over your dog you won't have a dog who trusts you and allows his nails clipped period. BTW, you CAN bleed your dogs' quick with a Dremel if you go to far. It takes about 2 seconds per nail on my MinPins and about 5 seconds per nail on my large breeds. I round off the edge so no sharp points to scratch me or catch on carpet. The noise seems no louder than my Oster clippers I clipped my Poodle with and use on my Dobe's ears. I do use a headlight for best light but found enough light was a problem when I used my reg nail clippers. Are electronic dog nail filers/grinders easier to use than clippers?
Here's the thing, the electronic filers are better for the dogs nails then the clippers. With the clippers, there's a risk of hitting the nerve and your pup bleeding everywhere. Also, the clippers leave brittle edges and broken nails. Sometimes clippers can make the pups paws uncomfortable.

The filers prevent all of that, it's almost impossible to hit the nerve with them, and you always come out with smooth, comfortable edges. The only down side to the filers is that some make a noise that dogs don't like..or if you have a dog that won't stay still, because filing is a longer process, it may take all day to file.
IMO, they're not easier to use because you have to get the dog used to the noise, feeling, etc........ but they do offer a safer way to trim down the nail, without doing damage to the quick.

I use both, trim with clippers then, use the grinder to clean up any rough edges.
I've never used one but I have nail clippers and they work just fine. I think electric ones may end up either scaring the dogs or causing an unpleasant sensation (would you want an electric nail file for your fingernails?). I'd say just use the regular clippers if they're already used to them.
I own the quick finder it gives me peace of mind. They work great. I bought them at jbpet.com I will post the link. Also, it makes no noises that scare dogs. The signal it uses to tell your not cutting too close is colored lights.

  • Has anyone purchased that new dog nail filer, as seen on tv? Is it worth the money? any info would be great.?

I've checked into buying one since I have 4 (yes really) house dogs of varying sizes. I decided not to buy it because the ';advertised'; price was only for the ';petite'; sized tool to be used only for small dogs and cats. The other larger tool was quite a bit more expensive and the ';deluxe'; tool, yet even more. They then wanted to charge extra for the extra filing disks and yep... even for the safety guard, and the warranty.

It just felt like a rip off to me. But it did look exactly like a dremel type tool. Gonna try that one!Has anyone purchased that new dog nail filer, as seen on tv? Is it worth the money? any info would be great.?
I can only say- I have not used the product- BUT! I do you a dremil tool wich is basically the same thing, and it works great- I think my dogs hated the pintch of the nail trimmer- they are easier to do with a dremmil, and there arn't any snagged nails and thingsHas anyone purchased that new dog nail filer, as seen on tv? Is it worth the money? any info would be great.?
I've seen it, and I know it works, but I also know it's not for every dog. It's as noisy as a drill, so it's a pretty scary thing. I think they have a cheaper knock-off which is just as effective.

    Petticure.
i have been looking for it in every store and cant find it,i want to know if its noisy or how it feels to them. im gonna star your question.

Can u file down a tooth with a nail filer?

i chipped my tooth and its sharp and i dont have insurance to goto a dentistCan u file down a tooth with a nail filer?
Dont use a nail filer or you risk breaking more fo your tooth or thining it further so that your nerve can get sensitive or exposed.

If the tooth does not have structural integrity, then you will end up breaking it more by eating and so on.

Find a way to go to a dentist, consult in regards to insurance, governement help, etc.Can u file down a tooth with a nail filer?
I suppose you could. But, I would just let it take it's natural course. Through eating and talking and whatever else goes on in your mouth, it will dull itstelf.
ouuch, tough conditions... if you would've had insurance, i would've said no. buttt thats a hard one. so im gna say MAYBe!!!

Has anybody tried, Perfect Paws Dog Nail Filer?

I just wanted to know if anyone has tried this nail filer before I buy it! I do not like to cut my dogs nails and because its winter he cannot just wear them down on the cement.

Please give me your reviews on the filer if you have used it. Also my dog is a Shepard so he has big nails, will it work?

ThanksHas anybody tried, Perfect Paws Dog Nail Filer?
Yes. My dogs are just as afraid of it as they are the nail clippers. They refuse to let me even try it. My sister calls this thing the petafile. Cute, huh?Has anybody tried, Perfect Paws Dog Nail Filer?
I recently bough the one on TV the Pedi paws nail trimmer and to be honest it is not as good as they show it to be, first of all on the TV it woks silently but in reality it made a grinding noise that scared both my cats and dogs, on the cats I had to forget using it because they would not come near me and that thing but on the dogs I was able to use them however it took longer than usual, was trickier to use (not easy-peasy like on TV) and eventually she had trimmed nails but I would say it is pretty much the equivalent to a good nail clipper but takes longer and they do pull their paw away as you work and the noise is disastrous.
I also have a GSD %26amp; cut her nails regularly. You can see her on my website listed below. I began to reward her as I took her paw %26amp; touched her nails when she was a puppy. I used to take her to Pet Smart %26amp; they would cut her nails every 10 days to 2 weeks relatively cheaply %26amp; I would treat her the whole time. Eventually I learned how to do it myself %26amp; she doesn't mind at all when I cu them.
The problem with those is the guard that comes on it, it gets in the way there is this small hole that you have to put the dogs nail in and it just gets in the way, you can get a dremel. I believe walmart sells them you can even order them at www.petedge.com for about $ 22.00
I have.. on 3 dogs. one small, one medium and one big. They hate it. It doesn't work very well either. It spins wobbly. It might work on tiny dogs... like... Chihuahuas or Pomeranians... if you can get them to stay still long enough.
No i have not tried. But the thing is i heard that it does not work at all. Maybe you should buy it to see if it really works. Good Luck!
I have one and tried to get the dog used to it the way the instructions say. She don't like it . Stay with the groomer
My dog was absolutely terrified of that nail trimmer, and we haven't used it since.

Now, we just go to the veterinary clinic for trims.
YES i have dnt get it it dosent work at all it suck dont get it i dosent fiel the nail at all
I have. My grandma's pomeranian was TERRIFIED of it.

Looking for a powered nail filer for dogs?

i saw somewhere a small nail grinder/smoother for dogs and cannot remember where now.

helps to take off the sharp edge after the nails are clipped and good for the dog that hates to have his nails clipped.

does anyone know where i could find one?

thanksLooking for a powered nail filer for dogs?
Don't buy the Dremel that is in the pet catalogs. The one at the hardware store is cheaper and better. There are a lot of websites that tell you how to Dremel the dogs nails. I love it and would never use anything else.

Contrary to what the first poster has said (she clearly has no experience at ALL)..the Dermel is easy to use and the dogs DO NOT mind it. I use it on 10 week old puppies and it is very easy.

Use caution on dogs with hairy feet......the best thing is to place the dogs foot in a nylon stocking with the nails sticking through. Otherwise, you risk pulling a LOT of hair out!!Looking for a powered nail filer for dogs?
I use a Dremel to grind down my dogs' nails instead of a nail clipper...they preferred it.

    http://www.dremel.com/en-us/tools/tool-d鈥?/a>
A nail filer is going to make noise that will scare the dog more than the clipping device.
A Dremel tool can be found in pet catalogs and hardware stores.

Has anyone ever tried the automatic nail filer for animals? ?

its the new one that just came out. Its supposed to file them down instead of clip them. If do what did you think about it? is it worth the money? and do you have to replace the files or batteries alot?Has anyone ever tried the automatic nail filer for animals? ?
I just bought one a month or so ago for our two mini daschunds. They were scared of the noise and vibrations at first, but after a while they got use to it. I gave them treats or toys while I did it to distract them from the filer. The trimmer comes with a page that shows you how to introduce it to the animal.

I've used it twice so far, and it seems to work pretty good. The Pedi Paws comes with an extra file. So far the filer I am using is still good after two rounds of trimming. I think it's worked good for the money so far. I spent $20 on it and it costs $10 dollars for the two of them at the groomer. Regular nail filers are hard to use on animals because their nails are thick and it could take forever!!Has anyone ever tried the automatic nail filer for animals? ?
Does'nt work and the dog freaks out from the sound and vibration, use a regular womens nail file (emery board).
All dogs are different so they will have different reactions to it. My dog doesnt like the vibrating and it scares her. I let the vet cut her nails
Some dogs will allow you to use it but there are probably more that will not allow you to use it.

Personally, I don't like it. It is much quicker %26amp; easier to just clip them.
I heard it doesn't work as good as it is supposed to. My groomer and past groomers use clippers. It is like $7-10 to bring them in for a nail trim. Vet use clippers. I would say-bring the dog to a groomer, petco, or a vet to trim them.
Just go to Walmart or your hardware store and invest in a dremel. They work great! My dogs like it much better then clippers, and their nails look much better. The cheapo type won't last long, and the cordless dremel will go forever! This is what pro groomers and show people use.
The refills and batteries get expensive, and my min pins wanted nothing to do with it. They hid under the couch and refused to come out for the rest of the day, and i didn't even get to use it on them. The cats hated it too. I prefer Resco guillotine style clippers, myself. You can follow up with an emery board if snags are a problem.
I have not used one of those but I have used a dremel on my mini dachshunds and I don't have any problem... the noise bothers them at first but just like with the clippers they got used to it.
I use the pedi-paws on one of my belgians, and a regular trimmer on the other. Both work well, the pedi-paws has been used 4 times so far with the same filer wheel and batteries, no problems noted yet. I guess it depends on what your dog/s like and what you feel comfortable with using. Otherwise, find a good groomer, most will not charge to have nails clipped between grooming. Mine doesn't :-)
I got one and used it for the first time today. it took a few minutes to get the hang. After working with it I shaped my dogs nails pretty good. I have 2 small dogs they wern't afraid of it and I did like it. I DO reccomend it. And it is called the Pedi Paws.

I had a front tooth that was minutely longer than the other, so I filed it down with a nail filer ?

It seems to have worked and I'm so much happier. Is this okay? I only filed the end of the tooth...and like I said, I only shaved away a minute portion of the tooth. I had a front tooth that was minutely longer than the other, so I filed it down with a nail filer ?
Probably OK but it may just happen again if the length discrepancy was due to wear or function against an opposing tooth. There is often a reason one tooth is longer than another. It could simply be the way it came in but more often it is related to the tooth it chews or hits against on the opposite arch. This is very common in front teeth.

It takes an understanding of how teeth function to determine why it is longer but you can look closely in the mirror and put your teeth edge to edge while moving them around and sometimes you can see what I'm talking about. You're probably fine though and you found out it doesn't take much adjustment to make a tooth look and feel better.

Make sure you send yourself a bill for the job well-done!I had a front tooth that was minutely longer than the other, so I filed it down with a nail filer ?
Dentists do that all the time. If you feel any pain or other discomfort, see your dentist. But you should be fine. Like I said, Dentists do it all the time, just with high-tech equipment that works like a nail file would.
as long as you didnt hit the nerve in your tooth, you should be fine. i dont know i its smooth or not, but if it isnt, you might wanna get that dealt with.

it is called the petitcure . go to their website . it is petitcure.com. You will find it there . I have one and I love it and it is so much cheaper than going to the vet everytime . good luck .

How often should you change your nail filer?

LIke every month?? every two months??How often should you change your nail filer?
I have a metal file that I've used for years. I wash it now and then and I've never had a problem with infection. I also scrub my nails with a nail brush and soap when they're dirty, so the file doesn't really get that dirty. There are some files made of wood or other material that are no longer useful after you've used them several times, but if you get a good metal one it will last you forever and you never have to worry about replacing it.

Buy yourself a cordless dremel instead, they are a LOT sturdier. I got one like the one in the below link at Wally-world this past fall and it's worked great:

Use this page as a guide for how to grind your dogs nails instead of clipping them: http://homepages.udayton.edu/~merensjp/d鈥?/a>

Good Luck!Has anyone tried Petipaw (dog nail filer)? Is it a good product?
I have a dremel and have introduced it to my dogs slowly and they will now both allow me to do their nails every week.

    http://www.dremelstore.us/dr76petnagrk.h鈥?/a>

There is also a good guide on how to use and how to introduce it:

    http://www.dremel.com/en-us/customerserv鈥?/a>

Another guid to clipping nails with a guillotine type cutter:

    http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/ClientED/dog_n鈥?/a>

If you introduce it slowly and begin by just rubbing the dogs feet and getting them used to that you should have less problems.

You need to be strong and not give in if your dog is naughty and doesn't want it done. If you give in, they win and they will always be naughty as they know it will end soon if the do muck up!

Only do a nail or two at a time and give them praise and a treat when they behave well..

Hopefully it won't take long to get them used to the idea, when they do make sure you do it regularly so they don't forget and get used to it.
My grandma's little dog was deathly afraid of it. She gave it to me for me to try on my beagle, but I don't think she will like it either. She Won't even let me bring normal dog nail clippers near her. I have to use human toe-nail clippers and do a little at a time.
its a good product probably if your dog sits still.. my dog HATES even having her paws touched, let alone something cutting her nails.. the only issue you would have is with the dog and not the product.. so it depends on your dog and his/her ability to sit still
not that brand but my dog hates getting his nails filled . but if u hate clipping his nails the vet should do it for you ( my vet charges 4 bucks )
its just a gimmicked up dremel - skip it and buy the dremel

SOME dogs are better with a dremel, some are worse
I can not get my dog to sit still for it..she is afraid of the noise!

Dunno what the one on TV is but I use a Dremmel on my dog's nails. Your may have to socialize your dog to one if you use it and you may need help learning how to use it.
    I think it's a Dremmell

Is is safe to use a dog nail filer on a puppy?

not newborn, but a small puppy.

it has long nails but theyre so small. i'm worried it might hurt him.Is is safe to use a dog nail filer on a puppy?
u shouldn't need to file them most pups have long nails just take him out on concrete when u go 4 a walk! that worked 4 me with my dogs when they was pups!Is is safe to use a dog nail filer on a puppy?
It should be fine, just make sure you stop before getting to the quick. You have to make sure the quick of the nail is visible and try not to file that or cut it or the dog will be in pain and it will bleed.
Yes its fine i have a dog and a 8 ont old kitten and i use it on my kitten all the time
If you mean a pedipaw then i think its alright, it will get them used to it for when they're older, cause older dogs do not like pedipaws, trust me haha.
You probably should not use a nail filer.

However you can purchase small dog nail clippers from your local pet store that will be a lot safer and easier.

    They are generally around $5

    :)
Just do it gently and slowly as the puppy's nails are more delicate.
Yes its fine just be careful.

Is it ok to file your cats nails with a nail filer?

because i dont want to hurt them.Is it ok to file your cats nails with a nail filer?
I live in the UK where de-clawing is illegal, but where kittys still scratch furniture and carpets! (which is fine with because I'd NEVER have my pet disfigured by chopping it's toes off..)

I used to take my guys to the vet for their claws, but she told me to stop wasting my money (unusual vet, I know!) and to use human nail clippers instead.

you need to get your cat into a well lit room and gently hold each toe so that the claw is fully extended. If you can see clearly, you'll see a pink triangle extending from the paw into the claw itself. This is the blood supply to the claw. You need to use the nail clippers to chop off the tip of the claw WITHOUT touching the pink area You only need to cut off a tiny bit of claw to blunt it and prevent damage - don't feel like to need to clip the claw down to the blood supply :)

This is a one step method and is much less distressing that sawing at each claw with a nail file.

Although the claw will be blunt, your little guy will sharpen those calws real quick, so you need to do this every 2 or 3 weeks.

Hope this helps! Is it ok to file your cats nails with a nail filer?
You can use a regular set of nail clippers or one specifically for pets. You should trim the front regularly but usually cats will chew their back claws often enough so trimming those isn't necessary.

There is a detailed article on how to do this without hurting your kitty below.
yes, try using the petti-cure. it works great. but please don't get them declawed because they can't feel in their paws for WHOLE YEAR! plus if they ever need to protect themselves they can't!
sure, but your cat will hurt you long before you hurt her.

    i would clip them .
i have had cats for years and never touched their nails

    If kitty lets ya, sure.

Anyone tried the pedipaw nail filer for animals? What do you think? I tried my battery nail manicure on my dog?

My sheltie tolerated it ok, just wondering if anyone has tried it yet and if you liked it or took it back? ThanksAnyone tried the pedipaw nail filer for animals? What do you think? I tried my battery nail manicure on my dog?
If your interested in filing rather than cutting- I suggest going with the cheaper and better dremel tool instead.

Faster, cheaper, easier, and all around better.Anyone tried the pedipaw nail filer for animals? What do you think? I tried my battery nail manicure on my dog?
I received it as a gift and my Chi HATED it as well as I did. She squirmed so much I had to pin her down to trim two nails (and pinning down a 5 pound dog is tough) Two nails took me twenty minutes to trim, I finally gave up and used the old trimmers. I think the sound freaked her out. Needless to say (but I will say it anyway), I will be re-gifting that little gem. Who knows, maybe it won't bother your dog. Good luck.
its actually amazing how much it works.

Right when i saw the commercial,

    i ordered it.

I had such a hassle doing it by hand.

I used to just take my dog to the groomer

and spent around $75 to get them trimmed.

    but now,

    its FREE!

the pedipaw nail filer is magnificent.

and i would greatly recommend it.
I have not personally used it yet but I went on a tour of a pet store with my son and I asked the groomer about it and she said they love it but, It is very easy to get carried away and go to deep. That said just be careful and it is a great tool.
Okay we just bought the pedi-cure for my pugs and German Shepherd dog. I mean its okay... BUT it takes a very long time and someone with too much time on their hands to do it. I mean I, personally, dont think its worth it.
i found one at the grocery store and its going to be returned tried it on my german shepherd and no good the grinding wheel thinned out real fast and the naild where just shaped and not cut.
My vet tried it for a few days. Their conclusion was that it was too noisy and took too long. They sent it back. A regular Dremmel tool or regular clippers are better.
My smallest dog didn't have a problem with it, but my other dog wouldn't hold still enough to let me get one nail done.
I tried it and my dog squirmed and hated it. It took forever for each nail

Whats the difference between a nail filer and a nail buffer?

because they look exactly the same and i thought they were but i don't think they are now ... i'm confused oh and any good tips on how to give yourself a manicure and i can't paint my nails with my left hand any tips on that as well and under my nails gets dirty really fast does anyone know how i can stop them??Whats the difference between a nail filer and a nail buffer?
I would suggest treating yourself to a manicure to see how the professionals do it! One girl said to soak nails, never soak nails! Your nails will expand in water, then after you put the polish on the nails will shrink back to their original size. This is the biggest mistake when doing manicures all because of one idiots invention! Files come in all sorts of grits. The higher the number of grits, the more fine it is. Think of sandpaper! So usually, a high grit file will be white in colour while the lower count grit files are usually black. I recommend about 180 grit for you. The first step is to use the file (lightly) on the whole nail to remove any ridges and then to shape the nail. Then use a buffer to bring out the nails natural shine. If you can find a 4 sided nail file/buffer, that would be the best! If your using polish, you don't have to buff the nail, but you should use a low acetone (nail polish remover) to remove any dirt or oils from your nails. Always use a base coat, as many polishes will stain the nail. Two coats of polish, and a top coat to prevent chipping! As for painting with your left hand, it does take practise, but it will help if you ';anchor'; your pinky on your hand or table. This will help stabilize your hand! For the dirt, not a ot you can do other than keep claening them. I like to use a metal nail file for that! Good luck!Whats the difference between a nail filer and a nail buffer?
A nile filer trims your nails to make them shorter/ shape them. A nail buffer makes them shiny.

Also, everyone's nails get dirty, you just have to clean them. take a small nail scissor and with one side clean what's under your nails everyday.

Also, if you can't paint your nails with your left hands just practice until you can or ask someone to do it for you - you can't really do anything about that but practice.

For a self manicure - soak in hot water, cut cuticles, file nails, buff nails, and put lotion on. Then, paint with clear coat and/or a color if you like.
you use a nail file to shape the nails straight across the edges. you use a buffer to smooth the nails so they are soft and shiny by rub it across your whole nails on the surface. a good manicure would consist of: file your nails into a nice shape square or oval, buff them so they are smooth, put some hand cream on then push back your cuticles if you need to and paint with a nice colour. you could get someone else to paint your left hand or just keep practising. if you get any polish on the skin just use some remover on a cotton bud. to keep your nails clean just make sure you wash your hands a lot.

Does the product pedicure nail filer make loud noises?

i want to by it but if it makes loud noises i will never get to use it! would you request it?Does the product pedicure nail filer make loud noises?
Definitely avoid. Cat nails are quite thin and it would be FAR too easy to overgrind the nail which will not only be very painful for the cat but will cause it to bleed which can be a bit hard to get to stop. All you need to do to keep a cat's nails neatly trimmed is clip them every couple weeks with a quality nail clipper made for cats.Does the product pedicure nail filer make loud noises?
I clip my cats' nails (I have three cats) with a cat nail clipper and then file them gently with an emery board at least once every other week. Cats are generally frightened by loud noises (i.e., vacuum cleaner) and it's a lot easier to trim their nails by hand.
Avoid it like chicken pox, it is shaky and kinda loud, no dog or cat will sit still for this one.
    yes
